about

The Research Sessions 1979 - 1983

Sonde members began their training at McGill University’s Electronic Music Studio (EMS), the best-equipped academic studio of the day in Montreal.  The group continued to have access to the EMS through the benevolent support extended by its director, alcides lanza. Sessions at the EMS and the Sonde workshop greatly contributed to the group’s expansion of their musical palette.

ÉPAE les bulles, 20/02/1983, 27:31. Charles de Mestral, Pierre Dostie, Robin Minard. Experimental session at the group’s workshop on a device producing water bubbles, electronic modification units, and live use of brain waves as a control voltage. ÉPAE symbolizes: Eole (air), Poseidon (water),  Athena (brain wave) and Electrolux (electroacoustic modifications).  A montage, produced at the EMS was entered
